Trojans are probably the most common form of malware on the Internet. Without an adequate protection system, there is a very high probability that your system is already infected. Unless an antivirus program is installed, Trojans are almost impossible to detect, especially for inexperienced users. Trojan Killer can help you identify and terminate Trojans, as well as other threats to your system's integrity. It comes with a wide selection of scanning options, a real time protection feature, which can prevent future infections and other useful tools.

The program can be used free of charge for a period of 15 days, during which you will not encounter any restricted functions. It is compatible with all modern Windows versions, including the recently released Windows 8. The software's setup file is 41.4 MB and it takes less than a minute to install its components on your computer.

You can access several sections on the main user interface, in which you can start various scan types, activate the real time protection feature, update the signature database, use miscellaneous tools and reconfigure the program's general behavior. The software allows you to choose between a standard scan, a quick scan, which includes only critical parts of your system and a full scan, if you wish to check all partitions for infections. Additionally, you can scan removable drives or prepare a custom scan, which gives you the possibility of targeting specific folders and setting the application to include startup locations, memory or hijack items and other elements.

The protection system can be started just by clicking a Start button. Once started it will display its shield traffic in a graph, which includes the number of scanned and infected files. If the protection system detects an infection, the file will be displayed in a list, beneath the shield traffic graph.

Trojan Killer's miscellaneous tools can be used to reset your web browser's settings, the HOSTS file and update policies. It is also possible to scan ActiveX components, Windows services, Internet Explorer extensions and startup links. If you suspect that your system is infected, you can set the program to gather system information. Trojan Killer will create a plain text file, with detailed information about all entries on your computer.

Besides the usual options you would find in a program's general settings menu, you can also find options for ignoring certain file types, to prevent false positives. For example, you can set Trojan Killer to ignore cracked files, which are usually interpreted as threats by most antivirus programs.

Pros

Trojan Killer provides flexible scanning options, so you can set it to look for infections anywhere you want. Its integrated protection feature will prevent malware infections in real time. The software's miscellaneous tools allow you to make various tweaks, to find and remove infections in unexpected places.

Cons

The program is free to try only for 15 days. If you need a fast and reliable anti-malware protection system, you should definitely try Trojan Killer.
